Fall

I love November. It's cold and rainy, sometimes snowy. Things are dying and it's kind of dreary. But the air is just so crisp and clear. People are outside less and less making the city seem like it's getting ready to hibernate. Things just become so quite. November is a month of reflection. Before the holidays of Thanksgiving and Christmas. After the frivolity of Halloween. The days get shorter and you feel a real sense of nature's presence as winter gets it's foothold. It's the perfect time for hot chocolate and a good book.

Plus it's my birthday!

Next week I'll be 27 years old. It feels weird. 3 years from 30. It's funny that that's such a landmark. Why are all the multiples of 10 the milestones? I don't remember telling my friends,

'Man, I can't believe I'm 7 already. I'm only 3 years away from 10 years old.

Can you believe it? Double digits! Where does the time go?

I need to get my act together. I'm wasting my life here.

Kids half my age have more to show for themselves than I do.

I heard about a girl who's 4 years old that just broke onto the abstract painting scene.

Her paintings are worth millions. What have I been doing these last 7 years?!

Watching Fraggle Rock and eating cheetos, that's what. Man, I'm such a load.'

I always thought that there should be 2 sets of 20's. Because your 30's has so many ulterior connotations that come with it. You're still pretty young but suddenly you can't get by with things that you could do in your 20's. You'll always feel younger than your age. I don't care how old you are. But just that fact that you've aged implies you should be more mature. But that doesn't make sense. You do mature over the years, but your values and likes/disklikes are usually solidified in your 20's. Sure you may start to find yourself voting more towards the conservative position as you have kids and get more money, but your basic personality is the same. Therefore I think that ages should stop after your 20's. You'll just start a new set of 20's.

'How old are you?'

'I'm in the 4th year of my third set of 20's. (44 years)'

'Wow, you don't look a day over your 4th year of your first set.'

'Oh, you.'

Sure it's a little clunky to say, but that's the price you pay to be a twenty-something forever. It'll catch on. You'll see.

Wow, that was a ramble. See what I mean about November being reflective? I warned you. And the month is only half over! This might not be the last time I go off on a tangent either. Brace yourself, there's probably more.

Anyway, I'm off to do important thing for not very important people.

One thing that will always console me when I'm older is that you will always be older than me.

We know you two were sort of under the weather at that time so we hope you both are doing better now. It's a bummer to be sick on your birthday:( Anyway, take care and again, HAPPY Belated BIRTHDAY! :) The kitties also say Happy Belated Birthday to you:).
